As well as traditional medicine, modern science also has good things to say about honey after subjecting it to laboratory tests and clinical investigations. Antibacterial activity of honey is one of the most important findings, first recognized in 1892 by van Ketel.[2,4]

SIDR TREE AND HONEY
The botanical name for the Sidr Tree is Ziziphus spina-christi. Other names for it include Lote Tree, Christ’s Thorn Tree, Jujube tree or Nabkh tree.
One of the most Premium Sidr honey has its origins in the Wadi Dho’an valley, in the Hadramaout Desert East of Yemen.
This mountain honey is raw, organic and pure, harvested from bees who feed solely on nectar from flowers of the Sidr/Lote tree. The honey is only harvested twice a year.
Unlike many farmed honey producing bees, they are not fed on sugar and nothing is added to the honey after is is extracted. This ensures that the honey is pure, unadulterated and thus untainted.
Honey contains a good amount of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), as much as 150mg per 100g in some. Ascorbic acid acts as an antioxidant and helps protect cells from the damange caused by free radicals in the body. Free radicals are compounds that are formed when our bodies convert food into energy. They are also in the environment and can be gotten from cigarette smoke, air pollution and ultraviolet light from the sun.
Research has found that darker honeys have higher antioxidant properties. A study published in 2013  showed that:
– Sidr honey showed a strong antioxidant activity and was found to contain a high number of phenolic compounds.
– Honey protected against the incidence of liver and kidney damage
– Sidr honey supplementation restored the damaged liver cells.
Manuka Honey or Sidr Honey?
Manuka honey of UMF (unique manuka factor) 12 or above is considered medicinal grade. However, high quality pure Yemeni Sidr Honey is all classed as medicinal grade.
The antibacterial effects of Manuka Honey and Sidr Honey were compared in a study published in December 2008, in HospiMedica International :
This study shows that in terms bactericidal (ability to kill bacteria) effectiveness, Manuka honey and Sidr honey are comparable. However, Sidr honey shows superior effectiveness against MRSA biofilms, one of the major ways in which MRSA continues to cause many infections which can lead to death in healthcare settings.
The colour of Manuka honey is slightly dark and its flavour is quite strong, when compared to the Yemeni Sidr Honey, which is very fine in flavour. Although Manuka honey is comparable to Yemeni Sidr honey in terms of antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, the Yemeni Sidr honey is slightly ahead in the race because of its finest quality and its purity that is unique.
For daily usage, Sidr honey can be added to tea along with black seed oil and lemon juice for an invigorating and healing beverage. It can also be drizzled over sweet treats such as pancakes, waffles or warn fresh bread, taken on a spoon or added to sweet and savoury cooked dishes.
Other ways to use it:
• General health – take one teaspoon 2 – 3 times a day
• Burns, cuts, wounds, bruises and lacerations – apply topically (i.e. directly on the place affected)
• To bring lustre to the face – mix equal parts of olive oil, honey and almond oil (which can then be stored in a jar). Apply the mixture to the face and leave for 15 – 20 minutes before washing off.
• To reduce bed wetting – the child (or patient) should empty their bladder and then take one teaspoon of honey before going to sleep.
• To rejuvenate hair – mix ½ cup of honey and ¼ cup of olive oil, massage into the scalp. This will get the nutrients into the roots of the hair. Leave for 30 minutes to an hour and then wash off.
• As mentioned above Sidr honey has medicinal uses too  and there are many natural remedies that can be made using Sidr honey.
